Spring Election Results

In the recent spring election, Roger Mellem, Kristin Wright and Alix Sanchez were elected to another two-year term as Village President, Trustee #3-Constable and Clerk respectively. Thank you to Chief Inspectors Connie Eberly, Paul Eberly and Richard Smith and Inspectors Susan Arvai, Beth Schall, Linda Cosban, David Sanchez, Ann Smith and Bruce Pepich who volunteered to work at the polls.

Overnight Parking

Please remember that residents cannot park overnight on Village streets. If you need to leave a vehicle on the street on occasion, please contact the Wind Point Police Department in advance at 639-3022 and provide them with the license plate of the vehicle.

If You Own a Dog…

First of all: Please remember that all dogs must be leashed on village streets and public areas, and including in your front yard (unless you have an electric fence.)

Secondly: All owners of dogs in Racine County are required to obtain rabies vaccinations and dog licenses under WI State statutes – Section 174.052. Failure to comply with vaccination requirements may require the owner to forfeit not less than $50, nor more than $100 per dog. Additional fines and penalties may be assessed to owners of unlicensed dogs under Racine County statutes. Dog License forms may be downloaded by clicking here or from the Village Clerk (vnbclerk@gmail.com) or the Village Treasurer, Bob O’Brien at vnbtreasurer@gmail.com or (262) 681-0898. The annual fee is $25 per dog. Please make checks payable to the Village of North Bay. Unlicensed dogs and dog owners will be reported to the Wind Point Police Department. Payments must be received by April 1; a penalty of $10 will be applied to late payments (excluding residents new to the village or dogs acquired after this date.)

If you’ve recently moved here and your dog is currently licensed in another community, please provide the Treasurer with a copy of your license and you will not be required to re-license your pet here for 2015.

Getting Rid of Old Electronics

Remember that Wisconsin law prohibits electronics (including cell phones, computers, keyboards, TVs, VCRs, flash drives, etc.) from Wisconsin landfills. Read more about the law at dnr.wi.gov/ecyclewisconsin . At this website, you can look for locations to dispose of electronics in Racine County. We’ve found the easiest place to recycle most electronics is at Best Buy located at 2710 S. Green Bay Road, Racine (Tel: 888-237-8289).

Bulk Trash Collection

A couch perhaps? An old toilet? Some cabinetry? If you have a large item for disposal, you may leave it out with your normal trash on Monday mornings. Johns Disposal will collect it and there is no need to call them in advance. Acceptable bulk items collected every Monday include:

  • Furniture, Appliances, Air Conditioners, Large metal items
  • Carpeting (no wider than 4ft and rolled)
  • Tires (2 per home per month – 8 per year)
  • Drain oil & antifreeze (sealed in 1-5 gallon containers)
  • Extra paper & other recyclables should be in clear plastic bags
  • Humidifiers/De-humidifiers, water softeners

Emerald Ash Borer Treatments

In 2012 the Village Board partnered with you to protect the ash trees in the Village of North Bay and it’s time to treat them again. The Emerald Ash Borer is in the area and we are seeing that many trees around Racine County that were not treated are now infested and dying.

Affordable Tree Care’s arborist is offering the same discounted price that was offered in 2012 of $8 per dbh inch (diameter by height). It is important to note that the trees will have grown a little, approximately 2 inches each. A new measurement will be done on treatment day and the exact 2014 size will be used for the invoice. For example, a 20″ tree that was $160 in 2012 may have grown approximately 2″ and will now be 22″ x 8 = $176 this year.

Just as we did in 2012, for ash trees lining the streets, the Village will pay 50% of the treatment and the homeowner will pay 50% of the treatment.

For ash trees that are “homeowner” trees (in your yard), you will be responsible for 100% of the treatment, but you will have be charged the discounted price of $8 per dbh inch.

If you wish to proceed with the treatment of your trees, please email Clerk Alix Sanchez at vnbclerk@gmail.com as soon as possible.

Also, if any of your trees have been removed, please let her know so that we can document that on the master list. If you need specific information about what you paid for treatments on your trees, contact Alix by email or phone at 262-681-3773. You will be notified prior to the treatment and billed directly by Affordable Tree Care, LLC.
