Construction Permits and Inspections
A permit is required for a variety of building, electrical, plumbing and HVAC (heating, ventilation, air-conditioning projects including and not limited to renovations, additions, improvements, upgrading or replacing your roof, hot water heater, and all fence installations (new &/or replacement). Projects may require multiple permits.
Permits are valid for one year. If the project is not complete by the expiration date, a new application and additional fees are to be filed prior to the original expiration date. Final inspections are required and a penalty is assessed for failure to schedule a final inspection.
Although contractors are usually hired to complete the work, it is ultimately the homeowner’s responsibility to ensure that permits were properly obtained prior to starting the work. Fees increase for permits obtained after work has started; work conducted without permits may be subject to forfeiture. Permit placards are to be posted and visible on the front of the building before work begins.
