Zoning

The quiet, residential character of the Village of North Bay is maintained by exclusively zoning its entire geographic area for single-family residential use. As a result, Village ordinances prohibit all business operations within the community.

However, in compliance with established Wisconsin state statutes, property owners are permitted to operate vacation rental establishments. To ensure community standards are upheld and proper oversight is maintained, a required operating license must be obtained from the Village before any vacation rental activity can begin.

Building & Property
A permit is required for a variety of building, electrical, plumbing and HVAC (heating, ventilation, air-conditioning projects including and not limited to renovations, additions, improvements, upgrading or replacing your roof, hot water heater, decks, and all fence installations (new &/or replacement).

Permits are valid for one year. If the project is not complete by the expiration date, please contact the Building Inspector for an extension. Final inspections are required. Fees triple for for failure to schedule a final inspection.

Although contractors are usually hired to complete the work, it is ultimately the homeowner’s responsibility to ensure that permits were properly obtained prior to starting the work. Fees increase for permits obtained after work has started; work conducted without permits may be subject to forfeiture. Permit placards are to be posted and visible on the front of the building before work begins.
